About Us

Welcome to the Parish Church of St Chad. We are delighted to open this beautiful church for our many visitors and to see it used by the people of this town whose needs it has sought to serve for over 900 years. The Church stands at the heart of the town and the link between the two has been important throughout the centuries. Worship and prayer are offered on a daily basis and St Chad’s continues to provide a sacred space in which to mark community milestones and personal landmarks.

In this busy world, whether you are religious or not, the church and its garden provides an oasis of peace even though it's situated amid the hustle and bustle of the town.

This Parish Church is in the Diocese of Blackburn and the Archdeaconry of Lancaster. The building is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a Grade II Listed Building and further details relating to this fine historical building can be found under Our History.

The style of worship is generally traditional but with a more informal all age worship service taking place on the 1st Sunday each month. St Chad's has been recognised as a Child Friendly Church. Children of all ages are welcome at services and can join groups such as Little Gang, Junior Church and our Youth Group.

If you need further details or support please contact the Revd. Martin on Tel 01253 883086 who will help you. Also there are links to our Mission Partners and to the three Church of England Primary Schools in the parish, St Hilda’s, Carleton (founded in 1680),  St Chad’s Poulton(founded 1838) and Singleton School which we support. The benefice includes our daughter church of St Martin and St Hilda in Carleton, a shared church with our Roman Catholic friends and also St Anne’s at Singleton.
